History of the telecommunications in MVM Group
The MVM Group is Hungary’s leading national energy company group, which is the 4th largest company in Hungary based upon its net income and the 13th largest in Central Europe.
The telecommunications activity of MVM Ltd. dates back more than five decades. Initially, its purpose was electric system management, to serve operational processes. Developments in infocommunications, increased capacity requirements and the modernization of the electricity network have made it necessary to develop the infrastructure. During the development of the telecommunications network of MVM Ltd., a modern, high-capacity and highly reliable system consisting of passive (optical backbone) and active (transmission and IP equipment) elements was built, which fully satisfies the telecommunications needs of system management.
2012 – under the auspices of MVM NET Ltd.
In 2011, the National Network Development Project was launched for the consolidation of government telecommunications and IT, under the auspices of which in 2012 MVM Ltd. decided to organize its existing telecommunications competencies into an independently operating telecommunications service provider company. As a result of this process, MVM NET Ltd., 100% owned by MVM, was established.
2013 – National Telecommunications Backbone Network (NTG)
The first significant milestone in the history of MVM NET was the successful completion of the first phase of the National Network Development Project. Within the extremely short time available, the company played a prominent role in the migration of the endpoints of the National Telecommunications Backbone Network (NTG) and in the construction of the telecommunications connections of the district headquarters.
With the launch of NTG at the end of 2012, state-owned companies will now provide electronic communications services to the state institutional system. As a result of the full consolidation of infocommunications, the introduction of the new model results in significant savings in the state budget. The backbone network topology of MVM NET is basically adapted to the MVM Group’s own sites, certain endpoint accesses are realized through networks used through telecommunications partnerships. A significant part of the backbone network runs on a transmission line route equipped with OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) technology, the essence of which is that the optical fibres have already been placed in the top lightning protection lines beforehand.
2016 – LTE 450 mobile network
MVM NET Ltd. was the second in the world to build the LTE 450 network, thus becoming practically a pioneer and ahead of its time. MVM NET used the so-called MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology on the LTE 450 network, which revolutionized signal transmission. MIMO technology also provides more robust communication to endpoint devices, providing up to twice the data transfer rate in the download direction compared to traditional mobile technologies, as well as better transmission quality. The LTE450 mobile network was created primarily to serve smart metering and other government data transmission needs, allowing for other non-government uses as well. The potential target group for government use is public administration organizations, local authorities, health care institutions, emergency services, educational institutions, as well as other state-owned companies.
2022 – 15 000+ km optical backbone network
As a result of the systematic network development of the recent years, the total length of the national optical backbone network operated by MVM NET in 2022 is expected to exceed 15 000 kilometres.
